Find the Secret to Building Trust in Leadership
The Power of Vulnerability in Leadership!
Learn how to lead authentically and foster a culture where creativity and risk-taking are celebrated.
How can you as a leader unlock the potential of others, inspire innovation and create an ecosystem for growth in your teams?
Two simple but challenging words: Leadership vulnerability. As much as we may not like to admit it, the degree to which we are willing to personally take risks, fail (at times in plain sight) and not always have it all figured out, is the degree to which those we lead will feel safe to do the same. And, it is in this willingness to step into the vulnerable place of risk that greatness happens.
Leaders who through their own example create a space for true vulnerability, build environments in which people feel welcomed to be themselves. When our teams feel safe, they become willing to explore new ideas, take creative risks and attempt great feats. In contrast, like a turtle hiding in its shell, when our teams feel like perfection is the only standard and failure is not acceptable, they will cower from creativity and stay inside the box of mediocrity.
Leader, may you through your own authenticity set the tone for your teams as you build an environment where vulnerability and risk is celebrated, and begin to unlock the greatness of those you lead.
«He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.»
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

6 Keys to Model Vulnerability & Create a Culture of Safety:
- Embrace it in your own leadership! The best leaders aren’t the perfect leaders, but the ones most willing to grow. Vulnerability comes from the top down.
- Celebrate progress, not perfection - in yourself and others.
- Show them when you’re “in process” and let them see how you're journeying through difficult seasons.
- Be honest about your struggles at times. This is a powerful way to relate to them in meaningful ways, and importantly, develop trust.
- When you’re struggling with a task, be honest. When you need help with something, ask for it.
- Remember, Christ’s power is made perfect in our weakness. Don’t be afraid to let moments of weakness show. God may have something powerful He wants to do through it. 2 Corinthians 2:9
