Overcoming Comparison: Leading in Unity for God's Kingdom

Learn how to overcome the trap of comparison as a leader and embrace unity.

Comparison. It’s a trap the enemy loves to set for leaders. We can easily be tempted to measure our success up against the success of another, and forget that as followers of Christ, we are one.

Bringing God’s kingdom on earth is not a solitary endeavor. We have a collaborative calling to see His kingdom come on this earth. We are one body and one team. As such, every leader’s growth, success, struggles, and failures become our own. Their burdens are our burdens, and their triumphs are ours as well. In order for us to impact the broader mission of seeing God’s kingdom advance, we have to abandon individualism and unite together to see our cities and nations transformed.

So may we be each other's greatest cheerleaders! In doing so, we not only uplift one another but also reflect the heart of a God who rejoices with us in our successes and stands by us in our trials. Let's join together in radical love and unity, strengthening the entire body of Christ and showing the world how good our God is.

«A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.»

John 13:34-35 NIV

Ideas to Foster Unity Among Leaders:

  1. Celebrate the successes of others with genuine joy—whether it's a milestone achieved, a project completed, or a goal met.
  2. Offer support, not judgment, during times of another’s mistakes or failures. By sharing one another’s burdens and offering empathetic support, we sow seeds of mercy that will be returned to us.
  3. Do something practical for the leaders around you, such as sending an encouraging message after a success or reaching out with a comforting word during tough times. Consider gathering leaders for connection and prayer, organizing support groups, or creating opportunities for leaders to share their experiences and challenges.
