The Heart of Worship

A Masterclass from

Peter Mattis

About This Masterclass

Grow a life of worship that carries into every room.

You know the words. You love Jesus. Yet sometimes, you reach the end of a song and realize your attention was somewhere else. Or you’re so focused on helping others encounter Him that your own heart feels overdue for connection.

In The Heart of Worship, Peter Mattis invites you to rediscover the simple joy of ministering to Jesus—giving Him your affection, attention, and everyday yes. Across six sessions, explore how private devotion shapes public worship, how preparation makes room for spontaneity, and how love for God becomes practical care for His people.

For worship leaders and teams, Peter offers insight into finding your community’s sound, responding to the Holy Spirit, and building a culture where encouragement and growth belong together.

Whether you lead from a platform or worship from your living room, come make space for renewed affection. There is more of His heart to discover, even in the songs you know by heart.

About the Teacher

Peter Mattis carries a deep love for Jesus and a desire to help others enjoy the beauty of ministering to Him. Raised in a revival church in coastal North Carolina, he experienced God’s presence from a young age—a foundation that continues to shape his life as a pastor, teacher, worship leader, and songwriter.

As Bethel’s Worship Community Pastor, Peter helps nurture worship servants whose ministry begins with simple devotion to Jesus. He lives in Redding with his wife, Clare, and their two children, whom he considers among his greatest joys and his first ministry priorities.

In The Heart of Worship, Peter brings that same care to your personal devotion and the people you serve, inviting you to grow in skill, sensitivity, and wholehearted affection for the Lord.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’m not a musician or worship leader. Is there something here for me?

Absolutely. Peter begins with the heart every believer brings to God: love, gratitude, attention, and surrender. While several sessions speak directly to worship teams, the invitation to deepen your private devotion and recognize everyday life as worship is for you, too. You don’t need a platform or musical ability to participate.

  • Our church worships differently from Bethel. Can this still serve our team?

Yes. Peter encourages you to discover and honor the expression God is cultivating in your own community. You can bring these principles into your church’s musical style and setting, exploring together how preparation, pastoral care, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit can strengthen the people you serve.
